CHARD’s education policy is to empower children through education. Our flagship program on education has been working with the objective of empowering underprivileged children by providing them with education and healthcare support. Data confirms that at least 3.5 million children aged 6-14 years in South Sudan do not attend school of this 53% are girls who are kept at home for marriage and illiterate.
Another alarming fact is that 80% of the population of the country has no access and means to primary school. Child Education NGOs are doing their part in bridging the education gap.
Education rights of children
Fulfilling the need for compulsory education for all children in the age group 6-14 is empirical in the Government of South Sudan’s education policy as in Article 45 of the South Sudan Constitution.
Partnerships of CHARD and the Government of South Sudan To continue an upward economic path, the government understands that it needs skilled and trained manpower to improve education across the country.
This is done to ensure that CHARD NGO helps underprivileged children in the rural areas of South Sudan to gain access to quality education using technology. As there is a severe shortage of skilled teaching staff in government schools, they make it up by providing access to education through remote learning. child education in South Sudan starts at the grassroots level and upwards to strengthen the education system.
Building Schools
CHARD takes the route of active school participation by contributing to the government school infrastructure, while some others build schools for the needy. This offers a stronger sense of support to destitute children from backward and marginalised backgrounds, as they are assured of a steady and free primary education, along with shelter and opportunities to succeed in life.
Orphan Child Care
CHARD helps in identifying and targeting vulnerable children by conducting outreach programs, partnering with local communities and organizations, and working closely with government agencies. They provide various services and support, such as education, health care, food, shelter and protection, to prevent children from becoming victims of exploitation or abuse.
CHARD also advocates for the rights and welfare of vulnerable children and works to ensure that they receive the support and protection they need.
CHARD helps underprivileged orphans to get education and other daily academic support through CHARD Academic programs which operate for 2 hours before/after school.
An annual supply of Kits including a school bag, shoes, socks, stationery, innerwear and a pullover/ raincoat is provided to every orphan. Teenage orphans in South Sudan still follow unhygienic menstrual practices, a 12-month supply of branded sanitary napkins is included in each kit to help the orphans attend school with dignity.
